Our Story: A Vision Led by Youth, Driven by Purpose

Mouth Mechanics Charities Inc. was founded by two visionary teenagers, Joshua and Jaylen Black, during one of the most challenging times in recent history—the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, while the world faced uncertainty and dental offices shut their doors, Joshua and Jaylen saw an opportunity to make a meaningful impact. As they witnessed how the pandemic exposed the gap in access to healthcare, especially dental care, they were moved to action.

Growing up with their mother, Dr. Tanzania Davis, a general dentist with a passion for holistic oral health and wellness, they had always understood that oral health was much more than just caring for teeth. It was about fostering overall wellness, restoring confidence, and empowering communities. Dr. Davis’ belief that oral health is interconnected with the mind, body, and spirit became a guiding principle for her practice, and it’s one that Joshua and Jaylen took to heart.

Inspired by these values, the brothers decided to co-found Mouth Mechanics Charities Inc., a nonprofit organization with a mission to provide essential oral health education, donations, and care to underserved communities. The name "Mouth Mechanics" originated from a playful yet meaningful moment when a patient, watching their mother skillfully restore a dental implant with a torque wrench, nicknamed her the “Mouth Mechanic.” That nickname became the perfect symbol of what Joshua and Jaylen envisioned for their charity—restoring more than just smiles, but also health, hope, and self-worth.

With the guidance and support of their mother and father, Joshua and Jaylen launched the nonprofit with a clear mission: to address the urgent need for accessible oral care and education in vulnerable communities.

One of the key initiatives that set Mouth Mechanics Charities Inc. apart is the creation of the Mouth Mechanics Mobile—a fully equipped mobile dental unit that travels to underserved areas, providing free dental care and oral health products to those in need. This innovative approach allows the charity to reach people where they are, offering education and services that make a tangible difference in their lives. The Smile Sharing Program invites donors and volunteers to help spread these resources, transforming communities one smile at a time.
